Starting in Autumn 2026, the UW will be piloting an online course share program with the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA).
For Fall 2026, UW students have the opportunity of applying to study the following languages at a partner BTAA institution (U of Chicago):
Catalan (Beginning)
Ukrainian (Intermediate)
Dates of instruction differ slightly from UW, so please contact us as soon as possible if interested.
Students will join the class sessions online.

Language Requirement
BTAA language course share courses are eligible for satisfying UW language requirements, but each situation will require a calculation to convert the credit and seat-time load of a BTAA course into its UW equivalent. Generally, many if not most courses, after conversion, will be similar to the UW 5 credit course load and so apply towards the requirement in a similar way to a traditional UW 5 credit language course. If you are interested in taking a BTAA language course and have questions about how it will apply to the UW’s language requirements, please email llc@uw.edu with your name, language you wish to study and any questions that you have.
