Proficiency and Placement Language Testing
Placement tests are available to admitted and enrolled UW students who intend to study a language at the UW and need to find the level of course to register for.
Proficiency tests are available to currently admitted and enrolled UW students and measure one’s ability in a language and are used to satisfy or waive language requirements. Proficiency tests are NOT used to determine what level of language course you should be taking. NO CREDITS are awarded for taking these tests.

IS taught at UW
The LLC coordinates tests for proficiency and placements exams for some languages taught on campus.
Spanish and Portuguese Studies
The languages supported are Spanish & Portuguese.
The Department of Asian Languages and Literature
The languages supported include Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Sanskrit, Urdu and Vietnamese.
The Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures
The language supported is Modern Hebrew.
IS NOT taught at UW
The UW LLC provides the proficiency assessments for UW Seattle campus students for languages NOT taught at UW.
These tests are to satisfy the EXIT requirement and NOT the ENTRANCE requirement.
